Geographic Location of Facebook Fans – Barclays Premier League 12/130

Football Industry is introducing a new analysis regarding the geographic location of Facebook fans of the 2012/2013 Barclays Premier League clubs.

Currently, the clubs of that competition aggregate approximately 80.7 million fans on Facebook social network. Indonesia emerges as the country with the largest number of followers of these clubs ahead of the United Kingdom and Mexico joining together 24% of the 80.7 million fans.

The table below shows the top 20 countries with most fans of Barclays Premier League clubs as well as the comparison, as a percentage, between this value and the total number of Facebook users in the country.

Local Fans Ranking (UK)

Regarding local fans, Manchester United and Liverpool are the ones with the highest number of followers from the UK. The current champion, Manchester City, comes in sixth with only about 15% of the number of Manchester United fans.

Degree of Internationalization

We have also analyzed the degree of internationalization of the clubs from this competition computing the percentage of fans from outside the UK that belong to their base of followers. Chelsea is the club that has the most international fan base being comprised by 96% of fans located outside the UK. Only 5 of the 20 clubs from this competition have a percentage lower than 50% in this ratio.
